August.

The Story Moment we put on the calendar last week ran on schedule and ran short. Unstable started at 2:00 PM ET on Saturday, August 15 and lasted roughly four minutes: Doctor Slone had the fractured Zero Point stabilising, Geno hacked the Zero Point Stabilizer, the beam corrupted, the screen filled with fake in-game advertising, and the whole thing crashed to a reboot.

What matters for the next four days is what the reboot left behind. The Zero Point is gone from the map. In its place, at the same central location, sits a game cartridge with a Glitch Zone around it — and the cartridge art carries the season's guest list: Sonic, Doctor Eggman, Pac-Man, Mega Man and Tetris.

What actually changed on the island

  • The Zero Point POI is replaced by a game cartridge at the centre of the map, with a Glitch Zone around it.
  • The cartridge stays until Chapter 7 Season 3 ends — it is a four-day fixture, not a permanent one.
  • Mythic Sprite Hours ran after the moment on the 15th, so the Sprite chase continues into the season's last weekend.
  • Season 3 ends Wednesday, August 19; Chapter 7 Season 4, Override, begins Thursday, August 20.

Epic also played the bit outside the game: the Fortnite social accounts posted a corrupted message in Geno's voice — *"RULESET UNBOUND | RESTORING KEY // | OVERRIDE X"* — which is the same tagline the season announcement leaned on. Treat the cartridge as marketing that happens to be walkable.

The Discover read: four days that are not worth optimising

A Story Moment does not drain the ecosystem the way a locked-playlist event does, and this one is already over. The pull now is the map itself: a brand-new central POI with a Glitch Zone is the kind of thing players go look at once, and the traffic it borrows comes out of the same afternoon you were hoping to convert.

The bigger clock is the season boundary. Anything tuned around Season 3 loot has four days of shelf life. That is not enough runway to justify a balance pass, and a listing updated on the 18th arrives one day before every player's habits reset.

  • Do not ship a Season 3 balance patch this week. It expires on the 20th.
  • Do ship your Override-facing update on launch day or the day after — season-launch week is when players re-browse Discover, and a fresh listing lands better than a stale one.
  • If your island's thumbnail or description references Season 3 loot, that copy goes stale on Thursday. Rewrite it before the 20th, not after.
  • Practice and arena islands feel the map novelty first. Today's board is a good example: the number one island on August 15 was Hunix War Zone (8430-9601-5744), a zone-wars arena — the format players return to once the sightseeing is done.

One caveat on the reporting

Epic did not publish a post-event breakdown on its newsroom, so the sequence above comes from outlet recaps and from what is standing on the map right now. Descriptions of the central zone differ slightly between outlets — some call it a Glitch Zone, some describe a Sonic-flavoured rift — and the cartridge itself is the part everyone agrees on. If you are writing island copy around it, name the cartridge, not the effect.
